David Leadbetter Golf Academy (DLGA) alumnus, Julieta Granada, claimed her first LPGA victory at the 2006 ADT Championships. Granada, who celebrated her 20th birthday on the second day of the event, received $1,000,000 for the win, which is the largest winner’s purse ever for an LPGA event.
In this, her rookie season, Granada has recorded two runners-up among seven top-10 finishes in 30 starts prior to her victory at the ADT Championships. This win helps Granada set the record for single-season earnings by a rookie with $1,633,586.
“This really isn’t a surprise,” stated DLGA Director David Whelan. “It was more of a matter of when. After watching her succeed in the junior ranks, we knew that her work ethic, desire to succeed and ability were going to take her to the highest level.”
Granada, who trained at DLGA for five years, was the 2004 Rolex Jr. Player of the Year as well as the U.S. Girls Jr. Champion in 2004. She was a four-time Rolex Junior All-American.
