Bradenton golfer Ginger Howard shot a 2-over-par 73 in Monday's first round of the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship at Hartford (Conn.) Golf Club, good for a tie for 24th place.
The 14-year-old Howard, who made two birdies, is tied with 15-year-old Daniela Lendl, a Goshen, Conn. resident who trains during the school year at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton.
Both girls trail leader Kyle Roig of Pembroke Pines by six shots.
After today's second round, the top 64 from the field of 156 advance to match play.
