The Levene Gouldin & Thompson Tennis Challenger has extended a wild-card invitation to Ricardas (Richard) Berankis, an 18-year-old Lithuanian who closed 2007 as the world's No. 1 ranked junior.
Berankis, 5-foot-8 and 155 pounds, won the Junior U.S. Open as well as the Orange Bowl Junior Tournament in Key Biscayne, Fla., in 2007, a season in which he played to a 24-1 record following Wimbledon.
Also last year, he became the one of four 16-year-olds to win a Men's Futures event, and the only one to win after successfully passing through qualifying.
Berankis' '07 season included a 12-match summer win streak that was pieced together after he attended a two-week training camp in Dubai with Roger Federer.
The first round of LG&T Tennis Challenger singles competition is to be played Monday at Recreation Park in Binghamton.
Qualifying begins Saturday.
