Akol is already attending class in Stillwater and will give the Cowboys some post depth in 2008.
"I like it over here, they have a good program, and I'm looking forward to it. I've been a lot of places like with South Florida and everything and I just came here and everybody just loved me and I saw the players and they really loved me and I can see myself being able to fit in the program so I just made my decision that I want to come here," started Akol on how his visit to OSU went.
After their relationship initially blossomed when Travis Ford was still at his previous stop, Akol added that he was recruited to Oklahoma State by the new Cowboy head coach and that his relationship with him was the main factor in his choosing OSU.
"Coach Ford really, I know he's a great coach and he's a young coach and he's ready to go, you know, just make it happen. He was recruiting me when he was at UMASS a long time ago," he said.
With plans of majoring in business, Akol talked about what how he feels he can contribute to this year's team now that he is on campus.
"I do it all, I shoot three points, I averaged 43 percent this year in high school and I'm looking forward to doing a lot [of things]. Blocked shots, rebounds, and trying to just work my way to 240 pounds. I just want to be straight because I've improved my shooting a lot over the summer down at IMG. I learned a lot with Coach Dan Barto, he's a great coach. He's tough too, not easy. I'm just looking forward to doing a lot of good things," he detailed.
Does he have an idea of how Coach Ford and the rest of the staff plan on utilizing him in the new system?
"Yeah, at the four or the five, just running mostly because the team's system is just running a lot so they need big men to run and shoot and stuff like that and I'm able to do a lot of [those] things," answered Akol.
Lastly, Akol noted that he is very impressed with the athletic facilities and that he is also very aware of the type of game day atmosphere he will experience while playing in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
"Wow, I know they have a crowd that is one of the best in the nation," he finished.
