Bradenton, FL – 25 August 2008 – Thirty years ago, Nick Bollettieri had a vision. He molded this vision into the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy (NBTA). The club/resort teaching professional realized that so much more was needed to take students to the highest reaches of the sport. What was once a program of primarily on-court training, has evolved into a multi-faceted camp/academy approach which includes blending the technical and strategic on-court training with specialized physical training and mental conditioning for total athletic development. The Bollettieri "system" not only built champions on the court, but off the court as well. This spirit, established so long ago, is present today in every sport program located within the 300 + acre campus of IMG Academy (IMGA), including tennis, golf, soccer, baseball, basketball, swimming and performance training.
Nick Bollettieri is arguably the most prolific tennis coach in the history of the game. Many of the finest players of the 80s, 90s, and into 2008 have trained under his direct tutelage. Nick has personally worked with ten players who achieved a #1 world ranking. Dozens of others have spent short periods of time at the world-famous Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy (NBTA) for micro-doses of his champion-producing wisdom. His style has been compared to a 'drill sergeant', and although he has mellowed over the years, he is still a demanding coach and mentor. As he explains it, it's really a question of getting the student to reach their full potential, each and every day. In fact, to show the extent of his coaching dominance, at Wimbledon this year, over 20 NBTA alumni participated in this prestigious event. In a sport as diverse and as global as tennis, this can be likened to 20 players in the Masters golf tournament all working with the same swing coach! To date, 170 Grand Slam singles titles have been won by NBTA alumni.
Nick, NBTA and IMGA’s 30 Year Celebration will be held November 7-9. A full weekend of activities for alumni and guests has been scheduled including a Saturday evening Gala Dinner at the Ritz Carlton Sarasota. The weekend price is $300 per guest (adults & children 16 years of age & over). The festivities include a Welcome Party at the IMG Academy Clubhouse featuring international food & wine pairings on Friday night. Saturday is all sports – select from an adult tennis or golf clinic at IMG Academy, round robin tennis tournament, or golf scramble (additional fee required) at the IMG Academy Golf & Country Club. Murphy Jensen and Steve Shenbaum will MC cocktails and the dinner celebration at the Ritz Carlton. The weekend winds down with a Sunday brunch at the Legends Bay Clubhouse.
