The 2009 FCWT DLGA/IMG Championship was held this past weekend (March 21-22, 2009 at the IMG Academy Golf and Country Club. The temperature over the two days was great for golf. The first round of play in theBoys 16-18 division had 3 boys finish with under par rounds and the day ended with 11 players tied for 12th at 3-over par 75. One of those players at 3-over was Scott Lamb of South Bend, IN(2009). On Sunday, Scott fired a bogey-free final round of 5-under par 67 towin his first FCWT event. Scott led the field in birdies with 8 for the weekend and also posted 22 pars over the two days. DLGA students, Tyler Engel of Castle Rock, CO (2011) and Zhong Yang "Sam" Fu of CHINA (2010), who began the day in 9th place, finished tied for 4th at 145, 3 strokes off the pace. Benjamin Palanszki of HUNGARY (2010) and overnight leader fifteen year old Tanapol "Petch" Vattanapisit of THAILAND (2011)finished tied for 6th at 146. Blake Soni (2010) carded a final round of 1-under par to finish tied for 8th with Shang Zhi of Bradenton, FL (2009).
The Boys 13-15 division finished in a tie between two DLGA students,Hao Yuan "Steven" Lu of CHINA (2012)andJeffrey Meltzer of Mexico (2013).Ittook four playoffholes, butafter three holes ofboth players makingpar, Steven prevailed on the 4th hole. Steven began the final round in 4thplace, but posted a second round of 73 to force a playoff with Meltzer who earned Low Round honors for his round ofone under par.Finishing in 3rd place was one of the overnight co-leaders, DLGA student James Yoon of PARAGUAY (2012) . Twelve year old Daniel Jaramillo of COLOMBIA (2014)and twelve year old Rigel Fernandes of UAE (2013) finished tied for 4th, four shots back of the winner.
On Saturday,fifteen year old Irene Jung of NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA (2011) took the first round lead in the Girls Division at the IMGA/DLGA Championship. Miss Jung knew she would have to work hard to hold off a threesome tied for 2nd and just one stroke back: DLGA students Alexa Rancourt of Portland, ME (2009), Susana Benavides of BOLIVIA (2009)and Jordan Lippetz of Bradenton, FL (2012). On Sunday Alexa fired the Low Round and earned her first FCWT win. Alexa's final round 73 on Sunday allowed her to finish two strokes ahead of DLGA Marika Liu of Beverly Hills, CA (2010). Susana Benavides finished tied for 3rd at +6 overall, 3 strokes off the pace and Jordan Lippetz finished in 5th place, 5 shots back at +8.
