Mika Miyazato is back at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy at IMG Academy this week and working with Senior Instructor Larry Marshall. Mika spent 8 months last year training at the academy in preparation for the 2008 LPGA Qualifying School. Mika went on to finish tied for 12th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn Priority List Category 11 for the 2009 LPGA season and immediately turned professional.
In her first three starts this year, she made the cut. Her best finish came at the Honda LPGA Thailand, where she finished as the low rookie in 6th place with rounds of 73-67-72-70.
Mika is a well-known golfer in her native Japan, where she had a very successful amateur career. She became the youngest winner of the Japan Amateur Women's Championship in 2004 at 14 years and 8 months. In 2006, she won the 15-17 girls' division of the Callaway Golf Junior World Golf Championships at Torrey Pines North Course. She was the 2006 Asian Games individual and team silver medalist. She also won back-to-back Japan Junior Championships in 2006-07.
