3/19/09 - Hillcrest HS (Texas)
IMG Academy now stands at 15-0 on the season after a 13-2, 4 ½ inning victory over visiting Hillcrest (TX). IMG Academy was not very polite as hosts of a 3 game home stand against teams visiting from Oklahoma and Texas by outscoring the opposition 30-5 over the 3 games. Jimmy O'Neill earned the victory on the mound and Casey Mulholland and Gavin Patton each posted a double and a triple in the 13 hit barrage of Hillcrest's pitching. Patton finished a HR away from the cycle and Mulholland went 3-3 on the day. John Ryan Murphy added 2 triples of his own and Connor McCarthy added 2 hits including a double in the win.

The offense was led again by John Ryan Murphy's 3 hits and Jack Daru and Cal Lambert each added 2 hits apiece for the 12-0 Panthers.
3/12/09 - Venice HS
Venice was limited to three hits for the second straight game as the Indians were shut out by The IMG Academy School, 10-0, on Thursday night at Venice High. Venice knew going into the game, it wouldn't be an easy non-district game. The IMG Academy School, a college prep school for IMG athletes located in Bradenton, had 14 seniors including six Division I prospects and an 10-0 record. Professional baseball scouts showed up two hours before game to watch the Panthers' starting pitcher Jimmy O'Neill, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound junior.
"They have some talented guys from all over the United States," said Venice coach Craig Faulkner. "Not really the team we needed to run into right now but we battled for five innings."
The Indians (1-7) did battle through four innings and only trailed 1-0 as the Panthers (9-0) scored a run in the second inning off Venice starter Michael Geeers. The Panthers scored four runs in the fifth inning. A hit batter, walk and fielding error loaded the bases for IMG Academy. John Ryan Murphy, who has committed to the University of Miami, followed by hitting a 400-foot grand slam off the top of the scoreboard in left field to clear the bases and give IMG Academy a 5-0 cushion. O'Neill (3-0), who didn't have a strikeout in the first two innings, got things rolling over the next five and finished with nine strikeouts and pitched a three-hitter. IMG Academy closed out the scoring with three runs in the seventh inning on one hit, hit batter, balk and two errors.â
3/10/09 - Clearwater Central Catholic
In their 2nd home game of the year, the IMG Academy Panthers gave the fans their money's worth in an all-out offensive explosion against visiting Clearwater Central Catholic. IMG Academy stumbled out of the gate early falling behind 4-0 going into the bottom half of the 4th inning. Casey Mulholland pitched well, but gave way to Tyler Rubino in the 4th and CCC's Patrick Camporini kept IMG Academy's hitters off-balance the first time through the lineup. John Ryan Murphy led off the bottom half of the 4th inning (and subsequently batted 3 times in the same inning) and it all went downhill from there. IMG Academy scored a record high 16 runs in the inning highlighted by Cal Lambert's 2 doubles and Gavin Patton's grand slam (after CCC elected to walk Murphy to get to Patton). Needless to say, the wind was taken out of the Marauders' sails and the home team went on to win 16-5 in a shortened, 4 ½ inning victory via the mercy rule. IMG Academy moves to 10-0 on the season and visits Venice High School under the lights Thursday, 7:30pm

Casey Mulholland came in relief and struck out 12 of the 15 batters he faced to lead the IMG Academy School baseball team to a 3-2 nine-inning victory over host Braden River on Monday night. Jimmy O'Neill pitched well in a no-decision effort before giving way to Mulholland. Mulholland also had a triple, and Blaze Tart hit a mammoth two-run homer in the 6th inning to tie the game at 2-2. Connor McCarthy scored the game-winning run after leading off the top of the 9th with a double. Tyler Rubino went 2-for-4 and had the game-winning RBI plating McCarthy in the 9th. Currently, Tart leads the Panthers with home runs with 3 and Mulholland paces the pitching staff with 26 Ks.
2/27/09 - Clearwater Central Catholic
IMG Academy traveled to arch-rival Clearwater Central Catholic and walked away with a hard fought 8-6 victory to bring their record to 5-0 on the year. Blaze Tart got off to a rocky start walking 6 of the first 9 batters and allowing 5 runs in the 1st inning. Tart settled in to get the win and relievers Richard Baerga and Casey Mulholland pitched 2 and 1 scoreless innings respectively both striking out 2. 2/16-21/09 - Seminole Hitting Academy Invitational
The Varsity Panthers opened up its 2009 campaign with a resounding display of offense, pitching, and defense by winning the Seminole Warhawk Hitting Academy Invitational. IMG Academy won its 3 games in the tournament by a combined score of 41-17 by beating Countryside in the opener, 13-4, Cardinal Mooney in the semi-finals 10-8, and Lakewood Ranch in the final, 18-5. Blaze Tart got things going on Monday night in the opener by silencing Countryside's bats with 8 strikeouts and allowing 2 hits over 5 innings on the mound and with a 2-run home run at the plate. Cal Lambert added 3 hits and John Ryan Murphy and Connor McCarthy each added 2 hits to pace the offense. Thursday night brought the marquee matchup that everyone in the Manatee County area, scouts, and baseball people alike have waited for since last year.
A strong Cardinal Mooney team led by its ace RHP Michael Heller had all intentions of ruining IMG Academy's hope to reach the Hitting Academy finals in back-to-back years. But 3 runs, 4 stolen bases, and timely hitting by John Ryan Murphy in the 1st inning set the winning pace for starter Jimmy O'Neill to follow. A hard fought game with 4 lead changes eventually landed in IMG Academy's favor with Richard Baerga getting the win in 1 1/3 strong innings in relief of O'Neill. Nick Mace scored 3 times on 2 walks and a single. Gavin Patton plated 2 runs with a double, while also scoring 2 runs of his own and Murphy did the same in his day's work.
All of IMG Academy's hard work throughout the week led to a showdown with local rival, Lakewood Ranch HS in the final. Needless to say, the Panthers were more than ready to avenge last year's final loss by putting up 12 runs in the visitor's half of the 1st inning against the home Mustangs. The Panthers' first 7 hitters all reached base and John Ryan Murphy highlighted the first by hitting a 3-run homerun and a grand slam all in the opening frame. Blaze Tart added his 2nd home run of the tournament to go along with his solid pitching performance and Casey Mulholland dazzled on the mound by striking out 7 in his 3 innings of brief work on the mound as starting pitcher. John Ryan Murphy was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and teammate Blaze Tart joined Murphy on the All-Tournament team.
IMG Academy will travel back to Seminole at the end of March to participate in the Warhawk's Steve Georgiadis Memorial Spring Break Tournament
2/10-12/09 - Clearwater HS Pre - Season Classic
The IMG Academy Panther Varsity baseball team opened 2009 with an impressive showing in the Clearwater High School Pre-Season Classic. The Panthers played both games at historic Jack Russell Stadium, previously the spring training home of the Philadelphia Phillies. One thing that was evident, it seemed as if the Phillies never left with the strong Major League scout contingent that lined the bleachers.
IMG Academy started the season with a 5-1 victory over Clearwater HS in 8 innings. The offense was paced by Cal Lambert's 2 hits and 7 of the 9 starters collected a hit in the victory. Blaze Tart left an impression on the 20+ scouts by throwing 7 strong innings and giving up no earned runs with 5 strikeouts. The second game of the classic pitted IMG Academy vs. Palm Harbor and the dense fog in the Clearwater area. The weather didn't stop the bats from working as IMG Academy collected 13 hits paced by John Ryan Murphy's 3, including 5 RBIs in the 13-3 shortened, 6-inning affair. Jimmy O'Neill and Casey Mulholland worked the game on the hill striking out 6 and 5 respectfully.
