Jerry Meyer of Rivals.com writes below about IMG Academy basketball program's Kyryl Natyazhko's college choices. An Arizona State blog also submitted an entry on Kyryl rumors, as did the Tuscon Citizen newspaper and AZ Central. Be sure to continue checking here for updates on Kyryl.
As coaching positions change, so does the recruiting landscape. Four-star prospect Kyryl Natyazhko had visited all three of his final schools and ready to make a decision, but Sean Miller's move to Arizona has things once again in a state of flux.
Natyazhko, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound center from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy was set to choose between Arizona State, Pittsburgh and Xavier. Now Xavier is out and Arizona is in.
"Sean (Miller) has already called and said they want to get Kyryl out there," said IMG coach Vince Walden. "With Budinger and likely Hill entering the draft, there would be an open spot for him to play early. Kyryl is intrigued by the situation. I'm just trying to help him stick with the process and help him remove excess emotion."
Natyazhko, the No. 75 ranked prospect in the Rivals150, has formed a strong bond with the former Xavier coaching staff.
"He is very close with (assistant) James Whitfield as well as Sean," said Walden. "He went to their elite camp back in the summer and had a chance to really connect with the coaching staff there."
With one official visit remaining, Natyazhko will likely try to find a time to visit Arizona after he plays in the adidas Derby Classic this weekend.
Don't think, however, that Arizona State and Pittsburgh are going to concede Natyazhko to Arizona.
"For a while all Kyryl talked about was the atmosphere at the Pittsburgh/UConn game he went to," said Walden. "With Blair entering the draft, that was a piece we were waiting on. And Coach Sendek called right away, as did Pittsburgh, when the news broke that Sean was going to Arizona. They just all wanted to get a feel for what Kyryl was thinking."
