A field of 78 players from across the country gathered to compete this past weekend in the AJGA Aldila Junior Open at The Country Club of the South in Johns Creek, GA.
Four DLGA golfers traveled 7 hours north to compete in the two-day, 36-hole event. Mickey Chan (2009) and Marcel Puyat (2011) competed in the 55-player boys' field over the par-72, 6,873-yard course. Doris Chen (2011) and Tanaporn Kongkiatkrai (2011) competed in the girls' division which fielded 24 girls from 11 different states and 3 different countries.
Tanaporn, or Mint as we like to call her, continued her stellar play this season. Mint carded rounds of 70-73 for a 143 total and finished in 2nd place behind Kelly Shon of Port Washington, NY. Mint has made a quick climb up the Golfweek rankings with her 4 FCWT Wins, her top-20 finish at Kathy Whitworth and now her runner-up finish at this past weekend's event. She started out the 2008-2009 golf season as an unranked golfer and is now ranked in the Top 50 in the country!
Doris finished in 11th place and Marcel and Mickey finished 25th and 31st, respectively, in the boys' division.
