Julia Murphy is the type of girl that never wants to stop learning. She is out-going, gracious and the type that thinks about others before she thinks of herself. You do not often find those qualities in many fifteen year olds.
Murphy is here at the IMG Academy soccer program for her fourth consecutive year, and she is already looking forward to coming back again.
"Every time that I come here, I learn something new," says Murphy. "The coaches here are amazing and they really want to teach you everything that they know about the game. My game is improved every time that I leave here."
An exceptional fullback, Murphy takes pride in stopping goals rather than scoring goals. While training here, she has been working hard learning new tactics about body position, and the importance of team defense.
Learning skills on the soccer field is not the only education she is gaining while she is here.
"At IMG Academy Athletic & Personal Development programs(Athletic & Personal Development program) they taught me different regeneration techniques, which help my body recover immensely," says Julia. "I have learned how to run correctly, and how to really take care of my body. You cannot get this type of training anywhere else."
Murphy would love to play soccer in college and go on to coach players so she can stay in the game and return the favor all of her coaches have already given here. But unlike most players her age, Murphy has goals that she would like to accomplish that lay outside the lines of the game.
"I definitely want to get into the medical field, that is a big goal of mine," she says, "I want to be able to help people. Secondly, I want to become fluent in a second language. I take Spanish in school, but I want to be able to really connect with someone in a language rather than English."
Murphy, a junior at George Washington High School in Denver, Colorado, is already active when not shutting down opposing players on the soccer field. She loves to ski, which I believe is a requirement when you are from Denver, and she is a member of the Junior Ski Patrol. Additionally, she hits the waters during the winter as she is a member of the school's swim team.
Murphy already has a lot on her plate and she has great aspirations for her future. With the drive and determination that Murphy possesses, there is little doubt that she will accomplish any goal that she sets her sights on.
Good luck with all your endeavors, Julia! We hope to see you back at the Soccer Academy soon.
