The Bradenton Academics at IMG Academy are one of nearly 70 teams from around the country representing the United Soccer Leagues in the Premier Development League, which mainly consists of college-age players. The league will run throughout the summer.
Clinging to a two-point division lead, the Bradenton Academics departed for a two-game away stand over the July 4th weekend. Unfortunately, the Academics didn't find much reason to celebrate.
Bradenton (8-2-4) had to battle back from a 2-0 deficit to tie Nashville 2-2 on Friday, before losing 1-0 to Atlanta on Sunday.
Down 2-0 at halftime, Bradenton forward Ederson Lopes scored his fourth goal in two games. In extra time, Tauren Manders added the equalizer.
With three games remaining in the regular season for Bradenton, the Academics still hold a two-point lead over Mississippi, though the Brilla have a game in hand. The Academics next play at Central Florida Thursday, July 9, at 7 p.m.
