The teams for the 2009 Ping Junior Solheim Cup have been announced.
The event, to be played Aug. 17-19 at Aurora (Ill.) Country Club, features 12 girls from U.S. against those from Europe. The junior girls will play their competition preceding the Solheim Cup which will be played Aug. 21-23 at nearby Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. Nancy Lopez, a 1987 LPGA Hall of Fame inductee and member of the inaugural 1990 Solheim Cup, will serve as the U.S. captain.
The 12 players on the U.S. team were selected based on a combination of the AJGA's Polo Golf Rankings and the Golfweek/Sagarin Junior Rankings as of July 20.
Two DLGA golfers were selected to compete.
Kristina Wong, from Vestal, NY, and a four year DLGA student will represent the U.S. Kristina graduated from June from the IMG Academy School on the IMG Academy campus. Kristina is a four time AJGA All-American and will play for Stanford in the fall. Kristina Wong worked with DLGA Director, David Whelan, in her final year at the Leadbetter Academy.
Fellow DLGA student and soon-to-be Stanford teammate, Sally Watson, was selected to represent Europe. Sally also graduated in June from the IMG Academy School and represented Great Britain and Ireland on last year's Curtis Cup Team. Sally spent three years at the academy and worked with Senior Instructor, Kevin Collins during her time at the academy.
