DLGA girls off to a good start at the U.S Women's Amateur!

The David Leadbetter Golf Academy has six girls and 3 alumnithis week competing at the 109th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. This year the event is being held at the Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, MO.

Competing from the academy are:

Sally Watson, 18, of Scotland, is a soon-to-be freshman at Stanford.Sally, who lives 12 miles from the Old Course, playedthe familiar course in2008 as a member of the Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup team. The Old Course also was the site of the 2007 Women's British Open, where she made the cut and tied for 50th. She also is a past member of the European Junior Solheim Cup team. Sally spent three years at the Leadbetter Academy under the guidance of DLGA Instructor, Kevin Collins.

Dottie Ardina, 15, of the Philippines won this year's Philippine Women's Amateur Open title. She also is a five-time U.S. Kids World Golf champion. Dottie will be entering her third year at the David Leadbetter Golf Academy and works with DLGA Instructor, Grant Price.

Alexa Rancourt, 18, of Portland, Maine was this yearsWomen's Maine Amatuer Championship winning the event by 23 shots. Alexa, whowillbe a freshman at Furman University, was The IMG Academy School's 2009 classvaledicatorian.

Victoria Tanco, 15, of Argentina was the 2008 American Junior Golf Association Player of the Year. She also won the 2009 Rolex Tournament of Champions in Cape Girardeau, Mo., in late June just prior to playing in her second U.S. Women's Open

Kristina Wong, 18, of Vestal, N.Y., was the co-medalist at the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur and semifinalist at the 2008 U.S. Girls' Junior, losing a 26-hole match to Karen Chung. This year, she won the New York State Women's Amateur, was runner-up at the Eastern Amateur and reached the semis at the Women's Western Amateur. She will join fellow David Leadbetter Golf Academy student, Sally Watson, this fall as a freshman at Stanford.

Cyna Rodriquez, 18, of the Philippines, will be entering the University of Southern California this fall.

Victoria Tanco 73, Kristina Wong 74, Sally Watson 74, Jaclyn Sweeney (Alumni) 75, Molly Aronsson (Alumni) 75, Cyna Rodriquez 76, Dottie Ardina 76, Natalie Sheary (Alumni) 77 and Alexa Rancourt 80.
