Two Athletic & Personal Development program/IMG Academy baseball program alums recently earned some prestigious awards.
Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds earned Major League Baseball's National League Player of the Week award for Sept. 27, while Casey Kelly was named the Boston Red Sox's Minor League Pitcher of the Year!
From an MLB press release:
In six games last week, Votto led the Major Leagues with 10 doubles, 14 hits, 11 runs scored and 27 total bases. The 26-year-old also had an N.L.-leading 1.080 slugging percentage and a .593 on-base percentage while notching eight RBI. Joey mashed 10 doubles over a five-game span (from September 21st through September 26th), making him the first player to accomplish the feat in a single season since Hall of Famer Paul Waner did it for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1932.
Kelly, at only 19 years old, combined to go 7-5 with a 2.08 ERA and 74 strikeouts for two different clubs, while splitting time as a shortstop.
