If you look at teams that have put themselves in position to make a run deep into the playoffs all of these teams have some very solid veteran or "Old Guy" leadership. Please understand that "Old Guys" in this case is not a put down, in today' s NBA where so much focus and attention is given to LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony and the youth of the league. This list is to show respect some guys who have performed at a high level and proven themselves over time in the NBA.
Cleveland - Don't get it wrong LeBron is THE GUY in Cleveland, but without Shaq (37) the Cavs would not be the #1 team in the league right now. Shaq's numbers are not great (11.7 pts, 6.8 rebs, and 1.17 blocks per game) but his ability to command a double and pass out of the post gives Lebron more opportunities to get some easy baskets (something that Lebron has had such a hard time with).
Boston - This is an obvious one with Paul Pierce (32), KG (33), Ray Allen (34) and Rasheed Wallace (35) the Celtics rely almost entirely on "old guys" and their situation is very different from the Cavs... the biggest issue that the C's will face is health, when all 4 of those guys are healthy and competing at their highest level the Celtics are tough to beat but without, they become a much more average team.
Orlando - Vince Carter (33) has really resurrected his career now that he is in Orlando.
