IMG Academy/University of Miami form Golf Instruction Management program
Post-grad students get opportunity to earn experience for a career in the golf industry from some of the world's top instructors
BRADENTON, Fla. (April 9, 2010) -- Combining the world-renowned training of IMG Academy with the elite educational offerings of the University of Miami, a new post-graduate golf program will fully prepare student-athletes for a career in the golf industry.
Starting in fall 2010, the Golf Instruction Management (GIM) program will utilize the proven playing and training methodologies of the IMG Academy golf program and Athletic & Personal Development program in accordance with University of Miami Exercise and Sport Sciences classes to train student-athletes for a career as a club professional, general manager, instructor, club fitter and other professional fields.
"With the golf industry becoming increasingly competitive, the GIM program will provide a crucial advantage for those entering the job market," said David Whelan, Director of the IMG Academy golf program. "By learning from Leadbetter-certified instructors, world-renowned Athletic & Personal Development program specialists and select classes from the University of Miami, student-athletes will improve all facets of their playing, coaching and management skills."
A two-year certificate program, GIM will consist of morning classes at the University of Miami branch on the IMG Academy' 350-acre campus and afternoons playing, training and attending classes with IMG Academy Leadbetter golf program instructors. Student-athletes will also participate in and learn from IMG Academy Athletic & Personal Development programsdisciplines like physical conditioning, mental conditioning, nutrition, communication and other key elements for success.

One of the world's top destinations for youth golfers, the IMG Academy golf program has produced 10 AJGA Player of the Year winners, more than 130 AJGA All-Americans, and multiple Scholastic All-Americans, US Amateur champions and US Girls Junior winners.
