IMG Academy student Tammy Hendler is quickly climbing back up the ranks after an injury to her right tibia delayed her progress for about 5 months. The HeraldTribune.com covered her recent comeback:
Hendler, who got into the 2010 USTA women's $25,000 pro circuit event at The Oaks Club by winning the wild card event here last month, made a statement Wednesday in the first round with an upset win over second-seeded Madison Brengle. She followed up that big victory Thursday by bouncing back from a first-set loss to dismantle Seminole's Alexandra Cercone 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round to reach today's quarterfinals.
In a tournament that is taking on a decidedly South American flavor, with three players from Argentina in the final eight, it is Hendler, a cosmopolitan player who was born in South Africa, grew up in Belgium and now lives in Bradenton, who has made the most noise.
