From IMG Academy lacrosse program Coach Tony Ventiquattro:
(Note also in "Saturday Preview" post): What's up, what's up fellow laxers? I decided to give you my point of view on the recent announcements of the 2010 NCAA DI Lax Brackets from the men's side. I am sure there are some office pools out there, and last year I finished 2nd in mine, missing just two games, so here are my initial thoughts on round 1...but first a summary on the tournament at a whole: it is time to expand! The game is growing at an unbelievable rate, a few teams proved their cases, but with just 16 teams to chose from and six of them being AQ's (leaving ten at large bids), there was some leaving out, no doubt. I have never been a believer in SOS, RPI or rankings especially for lacrosse, they rarely have it right, and based on who plays who you can't compare apples to oranges.
Round 1 Matchups (Sunday):
Delaware (10-6) vs. 4 - North Carolina (12-2)
Sunday, May 16 Live on ESPNU 5 p.m.
It has been a bumpy road for the Blue Hens, but take the CAA AQ, UNC only has two losses both two coming from the tourney's no. 3 and no 1 seeds. I don't see this one as being too close. Carolina has a lot of firepower, injuries have held them back from peaking at the right time. The dominant 2nd half they had against the Buckeyes this weekend, showed me this team is ready to make some noise in the tourney.
Notre Dame (7-6) vs. No. 6 Princeton (11-4)
Sunday, May 16 Live on ESPNU 2:30 p.m.
ND @ the tigers. The tigers are playing for another home game, ND is happy to be in, and playing with just about as much to prove their worth as Hopkins. ND started strong, but ended shaky, they did not have a good showing in the big east finishing 6th in a conference of 7, the only other team making the dance, is defending champ â orange. The tigers as well have had an up and down year, but proven they have the firepower to play with some of the big boys. This game will be close at the start, but the tigers run away with it in the end.
Army (10-5) vs. No. 2 Syracuse (13-1)
Sunday, May 16, Live on ESPNU 7:30 p.m.
Army in as the Patriot AQ, is riding a 7 game winning streak is looking for revenge against an even hotter Syracuse team. The âcuse only has one loss this season, a heartbreaking 1 goal loss to the #1 team in the land on the road. Syracuse has its sights locked in on a repeat, Army is looking for revenge. The only shot for the Black Knights is to take the air out of the ball, hold the high powered offense of the Orange to under 10 and you have a shot. Syracuse in a blow out.
