Traveling roughly 5,500 miles from home a group of 10 Russian players, 2 coaches, 1 translator and is ending their 3 week basketball training at IMG Academy. While here in the States they did enjoy some treats such as visiting Washington, DC and meeting 8 time NBA All Star, 6 time All-NBA First Team, and one of the 50 Greatest Players in history named by the NBA in 1996- Rick Barry.
When asked about the difference of training levels between their home town club "Trimta" and IMG Academy, Coach Alexander Antipov simply said with a smile "Training here is stronger and longer....Good fundemetals and knowledege of the game". He gave credit to IMG's experienced coaching staff which includes Nate Vander Sluis and Shell Dailey.
There is however Olympian blood among some of the players. Coach and team mom Yelena Khudashova is an ex-Olympic Champion in Basketball for the 1992 Unified Team. She said that she has seen overall improvement in the players and her two boys Clanet Katia (14 years old) and Clanet Vadim (10 years old) these past three weeks.
Their trip is still not over yet, once leaving the states they will then travel to France.
When asked if they plan to come back to IMG Academy Coach Antipov instantly said "Most definitely". The players upon completing their schooling have made plans to come back and train at IMG Academy to get ready for future aspirations of going to the NBA/ WNBA.
