Ohio is the birth place of all things grand. Grand actors , grand films and grand establishments like the famous "Millionaire Row", people like Neil Armstrong, and films like 'Air Force One'. The common thought all 'Clevelanders' share is 'be grand'. The reason for this is as Ian Hunter best sang it "Cleveland Rocks". This thought transfers to the sports teams as well. The Cleveland Browns are historically among the winningest franchises in the NFL, this is a grand accomplishment. The theme of being grand does not stop there not only in his physical stature but having an even bigger heart, Cleveland Browns D'Qwell Jackson's contributions to society are grand.
D'Qwell is at IMG Academy training for the upcoming season with the Cleveland Brown's. "I can't wait to get back and perform in front of the greatest fans in football, I've missed them." Jackson is coming back from a torn pectoral tendon that he sustained against Pittsburgh. According to the Cleveland Insider Jackson's pectoral injury though surgically repaired is among the least serious kind. "I feel strong as ever, the staff at Athletic & Personal Development program : Jeff Dillman, Trevor Anderson, Josh Lifrak and everyone in nutrition has really taken care of me. IMG has everything I need here."
Cleveland fans get ready because as shown through his off-season work D'Qwell Jackson is back to handle business. Speaking of off-season:
Tell me something about you that I can not find on the internet? With a beaming smile he replied "I just came back from a mission trip to Sierra Leone. One of my passions has always been to go to an underprivileged country and give back. With 'The Madieu Williams' and 'Healing Hands' Foundation myself, Madieu Williams and a variety of teachers, doctors and other specialist spent 7 days in Sierra Leone building schools, playgrounds and giving supplies where needed to underprivileged areas. A lot of people don't know but this has been one of my loves for a while since college at University of Maryland. Now since I'm in a position to do, it feels really good to see my passion come to fruition. This is not a one time thing but a long term plan of mine to do this type of work year after year."
D'Qwell, what keeps you going, what is your determination and how did IMG play a part in that? "The Love for the Game. There is 100% chance that a player will sustain some type of injury in this league. Look at me I've had two surgeries, but refining my skills is what I focus on. Refining them all the while staying healthy. I've been in this league going on 5 years now and it very trying on all aspects mental, physically and emotionally. As a player each year you must constantly re-prove yourself to the fans, coaches and the organization from game to game and especially from season to season. That type of pressure can weigh on veteran and it's not your body that gets affected but your mind. Here at IMG they have a set of the art mental conditioning program that optimizes a players mental performance and focus. You have to keep a strong mind and heart in this league."
It is D'Qwell Jackson's heart that makes him the player that he is but more importantly the person who he is.
