Fourth of July was spent on the golf course in Nebraska for two IMG golfers! The K12 Qualifier for the AJGA Nebraska Junior at Quarry Oaks ended with a bang with a two-way tie in the Girls Division. Sharing medalist honors in the Girls Division were two IMG golfers: Marika Liu of Beverly Hills, Calif., and Yvonne Zheng of Bradenton, Fla., at 3-over-par 75.
Conducted by the AJGA, the K12 Qualifier for the AJGA Nebraska Junior at Quarry Oaks was an 18-hole stroke play event held at the Ironwood Golf Course. The tournament field featured 44 boys and 7 girls, ages 12-18, from 14 states and Canada. K12 Qualifiers give juniors an opportunity to "play their way in" to coinciding AJGA Open tournaments or earn a Tournament Exemption or Performance Star for a future event. The K12 Qualifier Series offers opportunities for AJGA juniors at approximately 50 AJGA Open events.
Yvonne Zheng, who trains with Malcolm Joseph, got off to a slow start, but was able to make up for it by focusing on playing with consistency.
Marika, started off her back 9 with a birdie and kept her game in check for the final 8 holes.
Both girls have opted to stay in Nebraska this week to compete in the AJGA Nebraska Junior. First-round tee times for the AJGA Nebraska Junior at Quarry Oaks will run from 7 a.m. â 8:57 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, off the first and tenth tees at Quarry Oaks Golf Club.
Congrats girls on qualifying and play well this week!
