High school for Alan Nahigian has not been consistent. As a 16-year old junior from Saugus, Massachusetts, Nahigian is entering his third high school in only three years. But he thinks the baseball at his new school is finally what he is looking for. "First I went to Lexington Christian Academy and then I went to Pingree School my sophomore year. Saugus High School is the best though. I have a great coach there. And all my teammates played on the Babe Ruth All-Star team with me so its a perfect fit." Being from a huge baseball town right outside Boston, getting that perfect fit definitely matters.
His high school coach even compares Nahigian to his favorite Red Sox player Jonathan Papelbon. "I love that comparison. He has such a great intensity on the mound. And I like to think I bring that same fire myself to every game." For being such an intense pitcher, you would think Nahigian had a pure hatred for the New York Yankees. But with a very calm demeanor off the field, Nahigian said, "I respect the Yankees. Any team that has that much talent and history, you have to like them a little." Although his enthusiasm for the Yankees is minimal, he is absolutely thrilled when I bring up his time here at IMG.
Nahigian is here at the IMG Academy baseball program for seven weeks to participate in the prestigious Wood Bat League. He couldn't tell me enough about his first few weeks. "I love IMG. It is the place to be for baseball. There are kids from around the country and around the world that push you to get better. I just love the competition and all the friends I am making too." With that Papelbon-like intensity, Nahigian also spoke about the games here and how they are conducted. "The games are definitely the best part. Nine-inning games make you feel like a professional. And to be able to do that 3-4 times a week isan awesome experience." However,Nahigian said the IMG Academy baseball program, more specifically the Wood Bat League, is not all fun and games. "The workouts are very demanding on the body, but I know it is going to get me better. It's all worth it."
Improvement will begood for Nahigian heading into his junior year at Saugus High School. Playing great baseball and having fun should prove to be a successful combination for him as he is looking to play college baseball following graduation. With much of Nahigians high school career spent moving around, we are happy he has settled in at IMG playing the sport he loves for the summer!
