The IMG Wood Bat League College Showcase took place on Monday. Players in the Wood Bat League got to showcase their skills before coaches from some very successful college programs. Representatives from Lynn University, University of Tampa, Flagler College, Newberry College, and State College of Florida teamed up with IMG coaches representing Swarthmore, Morehead State, Palm Beach Atlantic, Principia and University of San Francisco to scout talent at the showcase.
The players ran the sixty yard dash and were radar gunned with throws from right field to third base for outfielders and from shortstop for infielders. The day concluded with a regular batting practice session.
Reggie Lindsey kicked off the sixty yard dash spectacularly as he ran a 6.81 sixty with many of the coaches concluding that the outfield track was actually slowing him down as the grass was wet. Austin Platt recorded the fastest throw from the outfield at 89 miles per hour. Platt also had the fastest throw across the infield at 83 miles per hour. During the batting practice session, many hitters caught the eyes of college coaches as well.
Although these were the leaders many other players performed well. Reggie Lindsey threw 87 from the outfield and Phil Dilandro threw 84. Marty Greinke, Alejo Lopez and Bex Trout threw 83 to round out the top performers.
Overall the showcase was a big success as all the IMG Wood Bat players got college exposure and many are plausible prospects for the programs that came to watch. For some it was their first time playing in front of college coaches and no matter how old you are or how you performed, the experience of a showcase is beneficial to any young player.
