Better every day.
That's the mantra Andre Milan lives by; a mantra adopted from his Performance Specialist Trevor Anderson.
"It's a saying I have. I put it on a bracelet," Anderson said, flashing his own. "When I saw him this summer, that bracelet was the first thing he showed me. And I can tell he believes it. He has improved so much since I first started working with him last summer."
Andre first came to IMG three summers ago to train at the IMG Academy soccer program. Soccer is truly his passion. "I want to take my game to the next level. I want to play professionally. That's what I'm here for."
Andre feels he is getting the best of both worlds at IMG; working with premiere coaches Oscar Pisano and Jared Vock on the field and top-notch trainers, like Anderson, at the Performance Institute. "I love the Performance side of it, but it is all to help me get better on the field. I love that I can come here [IPI> and then go out on the field and see that everything I do here is paying off in my game."
Andre is also getting the best of both worlds within IPI. "I focus on movement and explosion Monday, Wednesday, Friday and then he gets the anaerobic and strength side of it Tuesday and Thursday. That way we are tapping into different energy systems, not working the same thing every day, and keeping the athlete safe and healthy," Anderson said.
"Trevor pushes me to the limit. Just when I think I'm done and I can't do it anymore, he tells me I can and I do. He finds a way to bring it out of me. My favorite things are the ladders and sled," added Andre.
Andre cannot speak enough about his transformation since arriving at IMG three summers ago. "When I first came, I lacked endurance and strength. I've lost weight, gotten so much fitter, faster and more agile. My biggest improvement is definitely endurance."
His father's relationship with IMG Academy' parent company, IMG, is what brought 16 year old Andre to Bradenton from his Los Angeles home. "We heard about it through IMG and my dad and I thought it would be good to come down here."
But Andre's dad, Cesar, is another story in and of itself. He is the famous Dog Whisperer.
"I have always been around dogs and owned dogs- from the time I was two months old I was roaming around with them. I have four dogs that live in the house: a pit bull, a sharpei - basset hound puppy, a pug puppy, and a Chihuahua. Junior, the pit, is my favorite. The dogs are like brothers and sisters to me." Andre does have a real younger brother, Calvin and
Nearing his Wednesday workout's end, Trevor challenged Andre with footwork, medicine ball, and sled drills before challenging him with one final exercise: "The weighted jump rope: as many as you can do in a row. I've done seventy-four," said Anderson. Andre begins struggling from the start to link more than three together. "Just give me five," said Anderson. Finally, after several tries, Andre produces the five reps- then keeps going and strings together ten before reaching exhaustion and simultaneously flashing a smile for the camera.
It's all part of Andre Milan- filled with passion for the game and character for the camera; always working hard...getting better every day.
