From the weekend of Sept. 18 and 19:
U-15s: IMG 4, RSL 0
For the team's first game of the year, they played very well. We did not have much time for preparation so this was a nice surprise. We controlled the first half very well with possession and scoring chances. The first goal came at the 15th minute with a great ball by Chance Sztanyo to Paul Sime for a great goal. Stephen Ravazzoli scored the second goal shortly after from a free-kick from outside the box.
In the second half Chance played another great ball to Kyle Gibbs for a great finish outside the box to start the half. The team kept great momentum and did not let up. On the fourth goal Paul struck another ball from Chance and made it 4-0. Overall we had many more clear chances. Everyone on the team played and played well. Every player on the team, even the substitutes showed they could play good soccer. They consistently kept with the game plan and made it a very enjoyable first game of the year. We need to continue working hard and making the efforts that we did this past weekend to continue our success. I was very happy with the overall performance and want to continue this throughout the season.
U-16s: IMG 0, RSL 1
Playing against an organized and well coached RSL team, the 16's were unable to find the net and lost the game 0-1. The goal that was given up could be considered a little soft. The defense was spread out after a turnover and a ball through the defense forced GK Everardo Collar to come off his line. Coming off his line, Collar missed the attacker and RSL was able to put one over the line in the first half. After the goal, IMG maintained possession of the ball and were able to create a few chances during the run of play as well as on set pieces. In the second half Cameron Boone had an excellent chance off a corner kick from Omar Ontiveros, but the RSL goalkeeper made a terrific save to keep them ahead in the match. The game ended 0-1 for RSL. The starting line-up for IMG was Collar, Boone, Capeluto, Duchow, Grevelink, Deschamps, Contraras, Ontiveros, Carbone, Rojas and Cabrera.
Overall it was a positive experience for the team, but there are definitely areas that need improvement. Along with a few defensive concerns, the first issue would be that the team needs the players coming off the bench to provide valuable minutes and lift the team when they are given the chance to play. Another area of concern is fitness. With only two weeks of training under our belt, fitness was an issue. These issues will be addressed in training in the coming weeks.
U-17s: IMG 1, RSL 2
In the first half, the team defensive structure was good. Team made recovery behind the line of confrontation and was discipline in the defensive shape. We were aggressive in winning entry balls however offensively there were too many offside's by the front runners. They were off to the races and did not read the game well enough to make bending runs behind the defense. Finishing was poor However there were many scoring opportunities created. Brett Messieh made some successful runs in the 1st half that created scoring opportunity but fail to maintain the same play in the second half and we lost Harry Wilkins to injury in the first half.
The 2nd half did not start off well for IMG allowing RSL to score 5 minutes into the second half. The defensive organization needs to get better and the team will improve along with their fitness level. Eduardo and Christian Contreras were steady performers.
For the 1st game of the season the team did alright had they scored often and early in the 1st half the outcome and game would have been very different. The second half would have been much easier. Overall, they did play better soccer than the other team.
U-19s: IMG 1, RSL 3
The IMG U-19 boys lost their first game of the season against RSL with the score of 3-1 at the new IMG Academy soccer program facilities.
The team started to play well for the first 15 minutes creating a few scoring chances.
In the middle of the first half the team lost composure and shape, due to our fitness level and heat and slowly RSL start building up confidence.
IMG hit the post twice with Brett Munson on a free kick and Matias Rubio with a shot from 25 yards.
At the start of the second half RSL came up fired up and more focused and IMG gave up two easy goals , caused by lack of concentration on our part. The team went from a 4-3-3 system to a 3-4-3 system and the change seemed to work.
The team created a few chances and finally Carter Dorton was able to score with a âsurprise' shot from outside the box and re-opened the game. At this point the team didn't have any more fuel and energy to trying to tie up the game. RSL scored the 3rd goal on another gift from our defense with 5 minutes to go.
IMG line up: Salman Brache in goal, Taran Pennebacker , Patrick Fox, Gustavo Alejos and Carter Dorton in defense, Mac Yumoto, Matias Rubio, and Carlos Reid in midfield, and Rygo Morales, Brett Munson and Mike Allizzo up front.
Jose Barbosa , Jose Bohorquez, Kyle Lynch and Juan Pablo Bolanos came in as subs.
U-16s: IMG 4, Clearwater 2
The 16 Boys traveled to Clearwater on Tuesday night and won the game 4-2. The first goal was scored by Gianluca Carbone in the fifth minute from a difficult angle. Carbone received a pass from Ontiveros on the flank and chipped the ball over the Clearwater goalkeeper. IMG was able to maintain possession and did a very good job of creating goal scoring opportunities. The second goal came off a blast from Juan Carlos Deschamps. Deschamps got the ball settled and placed it in the upper corner from 25-30 yards out. This was the best goal that I have seen in CDL soccer in a long time! At half time it was 2-0 IMG. The second half started off right where we left off. Paul Sime got in behind the defense was able to finish the ball nicely on the break. While the game was 3-0 IMG was able to control the tempo of the game, moving the ball from side to side and again creating scoring chances. In the middle of the second half, GK Everardo Collar made a fantastic goal-line save to keep the game at 3-0. Half way through the second half, Sime was able to break through again and put away his second of the game. A very good performance from Paul Sime given the small amount of minutes he played, very productive. With the game 4-0, IMG was able to move players around and give different guys a chance to prove their worth. Jorge Machuca played in goal in the second half and players Cameron Tally, Jarret Pennebacker, Alex Aldana and Anthony Casciola all got time. Defenders Duchow, Boone, Capeluto and Grevelink also had strong performances. With the game winding down, Clearwater was able to put a couple behind us and the game ended 4-2.
Starting Line-Up: Collar, Boone, Capeluto, Duchow, Grevelink, Deschamps, Contraras, Ontiveros, Carbone, Djamus, Rojas.
U-19s: IMG 2, Clearwater 0
Great victory for the U-19 boys at Clearwater on Tuesday. We changed our formation from a 4-3-3- to a 4-1-4-1 system and the team seemed very comfortable and confident with the game plan.
Defensively impeccable, we didn't allow any important scoring chances except for a few high crosses on free kicks or corner kicks. The midfield line worked hard defensively and moved the ball really well keeping possession when it was needed and penetrating at the right time.
The forward line worked hard on the build up and was able to create numerous scoring chances with quick combinations throughout the middle.
During the entire game the team tried to play soccer with a good passing combinations when building up from the back .
Rygo Morales and Mike Allizzo scored the goals for IMG.
Obviously there is a lot of work to do as a team and as individuals but we are on the right track. We can't relax now because of a victory the same way we can't get down on ourselves when losing a game. It's important that in all circumstances we learn from the mistakes that we make and try to better ourselves every day.
