Scores from the weekend of Oct. 23-24
Coaches Development League -- U-16 girls
IMG 4, Fusion FC 0
Our entire team was excited and ready to play Saturday. We started out not playing as well as expected but I felt we were trying so hard to play well that we just needed to settle in. After fighting through the first 15 minutes, our rhythm of play rose quickly. We began to open up wider by circulating and switching the field at a much faster pace thus we found many one v one matchups.
Around the 25th minute Megan Peterson challenged the center back at the top of the box and struck a great goal. Once we scored our first goal we found our opponent realizing they were unable to dribble or pass through our midfield or defensive lines and started attempting to clear from their back line overtop our back 4.
Our team adjusted to their game plan and in turn started to really press and disrupt thus providing many transitioning opportunities for us. Our second goal came from a solid shot from Hannah Davis which the keeper stabbed to save and Lauren Marcinko ran into space and finished our second goal with a strong shot at the top of the keeper box.
Their back line continued to drop as we proceeded to attack their goal the second half. Our third goal came from a very nice goal from Hannah Davis. Not only to Hannah score a goal and an assist but had a few other nice shots during the game. Our fourth goal came from one of our newer players Andrelis Cristancho. She broke through their defensive line forcing the keeper to come out and Andrelis made a nice goal.
CDL -- U-19 girls
IMG 9, Fusion FC 0
Another great weekend for IMG girls not only scoring a lot of goals also playing really good soccer , building out of the back, switching the side of the field, completing passes, great 1-2 combinations playing as a team and scoring really good goals , it was good to watch the team coming together and having fun on the field.
Still we have to keep working to get better for the next competitions coming up.
The goals were score by Marisa Ammaturo 2, Marta Wangard 2, Briel Crespi 1, Paige Butler 1, Renae Bartol 1, Carolina Monteiro 1, Taylor Morgan 1.
CDL -- U-17 girls
IMG 1, Fusion FC 0
The U17 Girls came out with a well deserved 1 - 0 win against Fusion FC this past Saturday for our last league game at home for this fall season.
We played down the right side for the first 20 minutes of the half forcing play turning the ball over a bit and finally opened it up a little after that switching to find the other side to attack creating good opportunities. Kayla Aritt attacking at the end line created a corner 28 minutes into the first half where Sammie Thomas served a great ball into the box and Yazman Valez finished a good shot off the rebound of one of Fusion's defenders putting us up 1 - 0.
Second half defensively we were much more organized and shut Fusion out. Our build up was good coming out of the back and we created a lot more chances is the attacking third getting into the corners to get in but needed to do a better job in our final decisions and numbers up to score. Overall a great finish to our league play. We are looking forward to the upcoming showcase tournaments starting in November.
IMG 14s vs. IMG Reliance
The 14s came out and played a very strong 1st half defensively. IMG Reliance maintained most of the possession, but the 14s capitalized on their limited chances. Reliance struck first early in the game. The 14s bounced back midway through the half on a through ball to Carlos Morales, which he finished 1v1 against the keeper. Reliance scored a few minutes later to go up 2-1, which was the score going into halftime.
In the 2nd half, IMG Reliance dominated every aspect of the game and the score got a little out of hand. It was a good learning experience for the 14s that they will build upon.
CDL -- U-15 boys
IMG 1, Fusion FC 1
We came out strong dominating the first 15 minutes with many chances. After the initial 15 minutes we kept playing very well but gave up some chances as well. In the 25th minute Joshua Ruckdeschel beat the goalkeeper one on one from a great ball from Paul Sime. Shortly after we started giving up more and more chances until there was a breakaway goal for the Fusion. The forward beat our defenders and had a shot that slipped through to tie it up.
After the first half, both teams came out strong and playing very well. Our goalkeeper played very well in the second half along with the defense, keeping us in the game. I would say that the last 20 minutes we outplayed them, but could not covert. Fusion had a strong, athletic, and well organized team.
CDL -- U-16 boys
IMG 5, Fusion FC 1
The 16 boys came into the game motivated and ready to play. Defensively, the team was organized and put high pressure on the back four of the Fusion. With this high pressure, the Fusion side was unable to play out of the back and settled for dumping the ball long. With this pressure and a little help from the wind in the first half, IMG was able to score off a long pass over the top to Jopus Grevelink. Grevelink was able to finish nicely on the break and put IMG ahead 1-0. In the first half, IMG was able to maintain possession and dictate play. Late in the first half, IMG lost the ball at mid-field and Fusion was able to catch a break and tie the game 1-1 right before half. In the second half, IMG had to deal with the wind and the fact that the Fusion side preferred the direct route to goal. Sebastian Contreras, Lucas Duchow and Enrique Capeluto were able to keep the team organized and not give up goals in the second half. The goals in the second half were score by Marcos Djamus, who scored three on the day and Jopus Grevelink was able to put another in the back of the net to make the game 5-1. It is necessary to note that Gianluca Carbone had a very good second half and was able to push the attack and was able to assist on a couple goals. IMG now has to regain its focus and return to training the next couple of weeks and continue to improve each day. Training the next couple of weeks needs to be intense in order to be prepared for the Savannah Showcase in mid November.
U-17 Boys vs Fusion
The U-17 boys finished the Fall CDL season with a convincing win Saturday. We started with Michael Mitchell, Christian Contreras, Jon Taylor, Kim Kaumbutho, Christian Andrade, Chaz Heller, Marco Borsetto, Eduardo Juarez, Brett Messieh, Raul Minondo and Jean Samra. We played our style of soccer while being aware of how the other team would play against us. Midway through the 1st half we had a very nice goal from Raul Minondo with the assist going to Kim Kaumbutho who overlapped from the outside back position. This was the 1st time this season that we scored in the first half, something that we have set as a team goal a few weeks ago. John Voychik, Owaldo Noriega gave the defense some assistance to get a shutout.
Defensively we played really well. John made a great save that would have definitely been a goal had he not tracked back. Agusto Rosa, Ian Berish, Papa Otoo, Mike Remi made strong contributions when they came in. Augusto and Mike made shots on goal that were barely saved by their goalkeeper. Eduardo Juarez was excellent in the holding midfield position working extremely hard and winning many crucial balls defensively. Jean Samra made the most of his scoring opportunities with 2 goals. The 1st goal was an intercepted back pass leaving the goalkeeper stranded at the top of the 18 alone against Jean. The second goal was a blistering shot in the upper 90 at the near post. The players outplayed the opponents and were able to finish the game with a well earned victory.
CDL -- U-19 boys
IMG 2, Fusion FC 0
The U-19 boys took ârevenge' against the F.C. Fusion on Saturday by beating them 2-0 at Academy Park .
The teams met last year in CDL ( 1-1 tie) and in the quarterfinals of State cup.
Unfortunately for IMG (4-3 lost ) the team got knocked out of the competition after a great match and un âunforgettable' ending.
On Saturday IMG didn't play as well as other occasions but was solid defensively (only allowing 1-2 shots on goal) and scored twice with Rigo Morales who converted to goal ,two wel executed patterns of play.
Our GKs , Brache in the first half and Hernandez in the second half, did a good job controlling the box and directing the defense , didn't have to make any spectacular saves, because our defense, Gonzalez,Fox,Alejos , Rubioand Bolanos did a superb job controlling the opposite forward line. Our midfielders, Yumoto, Stokes, Barboza and Marin, struggled in the beginning of the match but managed to find their way as the game progressed. Our forwards (Morales, Kielt Munson) played well and managed to create several scoring chances.
Max Ribeiro and Jesus Lasalde came off the bench playing well as outside midfielders.
U.S. Soccer Development Academy League -- U-16 boys
IMG 1, South Carolina United 3
IMG 0, Atlanta Fire 1
The IMG U16 Developmental Academy boys traveled up to South Carolina and Atlanta for the weekend games.
The first match was against SCU at the Charleston Battery complex. SCU came out very strong and put us back on our heels right away.
IMG gave up two goals in the first half, both goals were quality on the part of SCU and IMG found themselves down by two goals for the first time this season. After some adjustments at half time IMG came out and played a better second half putting pressure on SCU scoring a goal 20
Minutes in from Austin Myara. A good individual effort to turn and strike a ball from 20yds out. IMG kept up the pressure having one ball just wide of the post and one cleared off of the goal line by the defenders that would have tied the game. With 3 minutes left we pushed forward to try and get the time and conceded a goal in the 78th minute of the match.
Sunday we traveled down to Atlanta to face the Atlanta Fire. IMG opened up the game putting pressure on Atlanta but could not find the back of the net. With some younger players getting some time and others a much needed rest the boys pressured but no goals by half. Coming off an lack luster first half we came out and pressed creating a number of chances and having a good shot of the post by Austin Myara that could have sealed the game. IMG lost Dylan Christie by picking up his second yellow card and played down 1 player for the last 20 minutes. Still creating chances Atlanta countered and found the back of the net at the 76th minute to win the match 1-0.
Academy League -- U-18 boys
IMG 0, South Carolina United 0
IMG 5, Atlanta Fire 2
We travelled 12 hours on a bus on Friday and ate 3 great meals and watched numerous Movies. The boys traveled very well. We knew this was going to be a challenge. Saturdays game; our focus was on the Defensive end and we came up with a shutout. I was extremely happy with the team's performance and everyone's mentality. We got out of there with a point and tied 0-0 against a very talented team.
We then Boarded the Bus for another 5 hour trek to Atlanta. Again the movies and meals were very good and entertaining.
We started 5 new players on Sunday and they all responded. We gave up a bad penalty kick in the 4th minute and were losing 1-0. In the 22nd minute Julio De la Mora Ahumada scored a bomb from about 32 yards out. We started to play better soccer and Jacob Kaye scored in the 44th minute from a great pass from Daniel Friedwald. We went into the second half up 2-1. Five minutes into the second half, Matt Veltri scored a goal on another assist from Daniel Friedwald. Daniel Friedwald scored the 4th goal on a brilliant individual move in the 65th minute and Jacob Kaye ended the scoring in the 67th minute. The game ended 5-2. It was a very challenging trip and we did extremely well.
We ended the trip with another good meal and a 9 hour Bus trip home!!
