On the heels of yesterday’s announcement that IMG trainee Joey Votto was named National League MVP, fellow IMG trainee Josh Hamilton was named American League MVP. Votto is currently in his third year training in his off-season at the Bradenton, Fla.-based Athletic & Personal Development program, while Hamilton spent a couple years training with IMG back in 2000/01.
Both Votto and Hamilton put together standout resumes this season. Hamilton spent the greater portion of season’s end battling an injury. Even with missing most of the month of September, his performance numbers barely suffered. He finished the season with a .359 BA, coupled with 32 homers and 100 RBI. Votto, meanwhile, was the unanimous choice by the Baseball Writers Association of America, compiling a .324 BA and 37 HRs, 113 RBI.
Votto was recently quoted saying he learned of his win while swimming at the local YMCA in Sarasota. The Toronto native calls the Sarasota/Bradenton area home in the off-season.
