Takahiro Omori, a native of Japan, became the first foreign angler to win the Bassmaster Classic -- the Super Bowl of bass fishing -- when he hauled in 39.2 pounds at South Carolina's Lake Wylie in 2004.
This week, "Tak" as he's affectionately known, accepted a new challenge: out-fish three former college players training for the NFL at IMG Academy.
Tak, Colby Whitlock (6-3, 294-pound lineman from Texas Tech), Chris Manno (5-10, 185-pound receiver from Hofstra) and Eric Plummer (lineman from Princeton) all hit the lakes that dot the IMG campus after a training session Wednesday.
And who would have won if this were a stop on the tour? All caught multiple fish, but Tak after a slow start found a honey hole that led to fish on about six consecutive casts while using a watermelon-colored Senko. He finished the day with about a dozen fish. Unfortunately, the scales weren't there to take a weight.
