Christian Garrett of the IMG Academy basketball program will officially be a Kansas University Jayhawk. Garrett, the 6'3" Los Angles native, had averaged 14 points, 7 assists, and 6.3 rebounds during his final stint for the IMG Academy' basketball team and will walk-on to the Jayhawks next season.
From the Kansas University website:
âWe're excited and looking forward to having Christian as a member of our basketball team,â Bill Self said. âHe and his family notified us that this is where Christian wanted to begin and get his education from the University of Kansas and we think he will be a great asset. He's a quality young man that will be a great representative of us. He's also a very good athlete that has a chance to be a very good basketball player.â
Garrett also had a few other programs interested in making him a part of their team including NC State, Alabama, Auburn, and Sam Houston State. In the end, the Jayhawks were Garret's choice.
This decision has those in the college basketball world wondering if this move is a prelude to five-star recruit DeAndre Daniels following Garret to Kansas. The Jayhawks sure hope so. Daniels, who is good friends and teammates with Garrett at IMG Academy, is the No.9 prospect in the 2011 class and is expected to choose between Kansas, Kentucky and Texas.
