Playing in the SAP Open in San Jose, California, Richard Berankis knocked off tournament six seed and No. 57 world-ranked Benjamin Becker 6-3, 7-6(2). Call it an upset if you will, but the twenty-year old Berankis is one of the budding stars in the game of tennis and victories over formidable opponents may soon become the norm.
Berankis, a product of the IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program, is currently ranked No. 74 in the world making him the youngest player in the Top 75 of the ATP Tour's World Rankings. Berankis reached his first career quarterfinal of an ATP Tour event as a qualifier in San Jose last year. Prior to turning professional in 2008, he was the 2007 Jr. U.S. Open Championship and the 2007 World No.1 Junior.
