On Sunday, the six participants were announced that will make up the cast for the Sony Ericsson's Xperia Hot Shot reality show. Two of the contestants, Sabine Lisicki and Heather Watson, train at the IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program.
The 18-year-old Watson, a native of England, is currently ranked No. 123 in the WTA.
"I was so happy when I found out that I was screaming, 'I got the part!," said Watson. "I couldn't wait to get started with the whole project. I'm good at keeping secrets, so no one found out. I'm really excited for the people to get to know me off the court. For instance, I'm very into music and dancing. I'm dancing all the time. I'm also really into school. I love learning and don't understand when people say they hate school."
Lisicki, a 21-year-old from Germany, is ranked No. 217 in the WTA, but has been as high as No. 22 since turning pro in 2006.
Maria Sharapova was on hand at the event, and explained that the show's purpose it to focus on the player's difficult quest to become tennis stars. Filming will take place during the next five months. Sharapova also went on to say,
"We launched the program in Melbourne and revealed the Hot Shots today. It basically showcases what some of our players are like off the court, giving fans insight into their lives and personalities. It's a wonderful experience for the players, getting to be behind the camera, which some of them haven't done a lot of yet."
