The IMG varsity baseball team defeated Battle Ground Academy (Franklin, TN) by a score of 9-4. With the win, IMG advances to the championship game of the Hall of Fame Classic. The IMG hitters came out swinging, scoring 6 runs in the first 3 innings and staking starting pitcher Mack Meyer to a lead that he would not surrender.
Hutton Moyer started things off in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left field. In the second inning, a Nick Sebastian lead offwalk was followed by a sacrifice bunt by Joe Daru. After a pop up for the second out in the inning, Kirk Dirschl delivered an RBI single, bringing home Sebastian. Eric Myskowski would follow two batters later, driving in Dirschl with an RBI single. The scoring continued in the third inning when Brandon Bonilla singled with one out followed by another Sebastian walk. With two on, Joe Daru delivered the knock out punch hitting his second home run of the tournament, a 3 run laser to left field.
Offensively the team was lead by Eric Myskowski who went 3-4 with a RBI and run scored, Hutton Moyer who went 2-4 with a HR, 3B, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, and Joe Daru who went 2-2 with a HR, 4 RBI and a run scored.
Mack Meyer picked up the win, going 5 innings while allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, striking out 3. Kirk Dirschl nailed down the save in relief, pitching two innings without allowing a baserunner.
IMG will take on St. John's College HS (Washington DC) in tomorrow's championship game at 2pm. Starting on the hill for IMG will be Andres Carrillo.
