IMG U17 Boys Round of 16 and Quarterfinals
Saturday, April 30, 2011: was the round of 16 and the team had to play against Team Boca. It was a successful day for us. The team started things off with a goal from Adrian Bicknell assisted by Raul Minondo . Adrian got a second goal with a blistering free kick to give us a 2-0 going into the half. More goals were scored in the second half with Marco Borsetto finishing a cross from Brett Messieh. Brett gave another assist to Adrian who capped off his game with a hat trick. The final goal came from Jean Samra with the help of Adrian Bicknel.
The tough defensive unit of Michael Mitchell, Kim Kaubutho, Christian Contreras, John Taylor, Chaz Heller, Eddy Juarez and John Voychik kept Boca from scoring any goals. Everyone on the team contributed to the victorious game. In the end IMG had 5 unanswered goals.
Sunday May 1,2011, we faced a much stronger opponent in the Quarter Finals. RSL is the current defending State Champions and 1st in the State poll. The team had to make a few adjustments due to injuries. We did not help ourselves by spotting them 2 goals in the 1st half. The team fought hard and tried as they may, could not find the back of the net. The U-17 boys played RSL even in the second half. In the end the 2 goals deficit sent us out of the State Cup Tournament. It was a very good run and the team should feel disappointed that we are out but be proud of the accomplishments they have achieved.
IMG U16 Academy League
The U16's opened up this weekend with two good local teams out of Miami.
Saturday, April 30, 2011:
IMG U16 AL 1, Weston 0
On Saturday we played the best of the two teams with Weston. They are a very good team with a lot of skill and ability.
We played a tough match, going back and forth. Pablo Aguilar found the back of the net at the 55 minute mark to give IMG a 1-0 lead that would stand to be the final. Both teams had chances through the game Marco Valez came up big with some great saves.
Sunday May 1,2011:
IMG U16 AL 3, Kendal 0
On Sunday IMG met up with Kendall and came out to a good start. Eight minutes into the match Pablo Aguilar took a long ball from Omar Ontiveros and slotted a pass to Dean Abdehou. Abdehou dribbled the endline and returned the pass to Aguilar who calmly tucked the ball into the back of the net to give the team a 1 to nothing lead. Later on in the first half the Aguilar and Abdehou combination created another goal this time with Abdehou finishing the pass from Aguilar. The security goal came early in the second half with Sebastian Hilliare finishing a very good goal from about 25 yards out to give IMG a 3-0 lead. Kendall got one late with 15 minutes to go to close the lead but IMG managed the remainder of the game and closed out the game.
The next match is next week against local rival Clearwater Chargers Sunday May 8th.

Saturday, April 30, 2011: Round of 16 and Quarterfinals
IMG 3, Parkland Predators - 1
Saturday the 15's played Parkland Predators SC in the round of 16's. We got our 1st goal of the game from a free kick taken by Mitch Zarur from 25 yards out. The team played good soccer and created many chances. The 1st half ended with a 1-0 lead. The second half the other team came out and tied the game 1-1 with a fee kick. We continued pressing and was rewarded with a goal by Kyle Gibbs with an assist going to Josh Ruckdeschel. With 10 minutes left Paul Sime played into Kyle Gibbs who put the game out of Parkland reach.
Sunday May 1,2011: IMG 2, Nike Rush 0
Sunday was the Quarter Finals. We played Nike Rush. From the 1st whistle we came out strong. Paul Sime scored the 1st goal and gave us a 1-0 lead in the first half. The team continues to play good soccer and was very organized. The Rush had a few opportunities but Pat (JJ) Byrnes was strong in goal and made some good saves to keep the lead. With 10 minutes left in the game the team had a nice buildup from the back and played the ball to Paul who crossed the ball behind the defense to the back post to find Josh Ruckdeschel who scored on the header to put the game at 2-0. I am very happy with the performance of the whole team. Congratulations making it to the final 4. I expect the team to continue to work hard in practices and focus to prepare for the next set of games which is very important.
IMG U14 Boys
Round of 16: Saturday, April 30, 2011:
IMG - 1, FL Rush - 0 (PKsâ¦IMG - 4, FL Rush - 3)
This was the craziest game of the year by far for the 14s. Neither team was able to develop a rhythm because of poor reffing and weather. The ref blew the whistle almost every minute for some minor infraction throughout the entire game. Then during halftime, a downpour of rain came for about 20 minutes causing the field to have puddles through the middle. So during the 2nd half and overtime, the ball would just stick making possession difficult for both sides.
It was a back and forth game in the midfield with neither team created many chances on goal. The best chance of the game came on an IMG free kick in the 2nd half that Remi Pimm got a head on and was going into the upper 90. The Rush keeper made a great save tipping the ball over the crossbar.
With the score locked at 0 through regulation and 20 minutes of overtime, PKs were the deciding factor. IMG missed their first two kicks and made the next three by Max Fuentes, Sam Kuznicki, and Rajmond Laski. Rush missed their 1st kick and made the next 3. So going into their last kick, a made kick would win the game for Rush. But Jorge Abuin came up huge, diving to his left and saving their fifth kick. So with both teams making 3 PKs out of 5, it now went to sudden death. IMG's 6th shooter, Gio Alcocer, blasted the shot past the Rush keeper. Now with the pressure once again on Rush, they were not able to handle it and their 6th shooter missedâ¦IMG victorious in a very gutty effort moving them into the Round of 8 on Sunday.
Sunday May 1,2011: Quarterfinals
IMG - 1, Brandon - 0
Having already played Brandon twice this season, both teams were very familiar with each other. The first half was an even matchup with both teams feeling each other out and the possession being split almost evenly. But during the 2nd half, the game began to swing in IMG's favor with the 14s controlling the majority of the tempo and creating more scoring chances. The 20th minute of the 2nd half was a product of thatâ¦IMG had a great build up from the back through the midfield, then to Carlos Morales. Carlos received the ball and dribbled through Brandon's defense then had a 1v1 with the keeper that was saved, but was not held on to by the keeper. There was a scramble for the ball and it bounced up in the air back to Carlos who volleyed it past the keeper. With IMG now up 1-0, the defense locked down the Brandon attack for the remainder of the game and held on to the 1 goal lead for the winâ¦giving the IMG 14s a ticket to the Florida State Cup Final 4.
It was a great weekend for the 14s and a fantastic effort by everyone on the rosterâ¦
Keepers Jorge Abuin and Alejandro Florez
Defenders Ian McCauley, Nick Pennebacker, Max Fuentes, Sam Kuznicki, and Gio Alcocer
Midfielders Troy Gonzalez, Roy De La Maza, Rajmond Laski, Christian Fiechtner, Remi Pimm, Luca Fischer, and Victor Rey
Forwards Kenny Shrimpton, Ethan Lamb, Carlos Morales, and Nabil Brache
IMG now moves on to the State Cup Final 4 vs. Pinecrest on May 21st in Auburndale, FL.
U17 IMG Girls State Cup - Round of 16 Weekend Results -
Saturday, April 30, 2011:
IMG Girls 1 vs. Lakeland 4
IMG girls had a tough loss to Lakeland this past Saturday ending 4 - 1. They had a good first half and definitely in the game. But seven minutes left in the half they got scored on by a ball cleared off the line and the referee called it in. We started out ok second half but with ten minutes in we turned the ball over in the midfield and resulted with a second goal for Lakeland. With 12 players and three injured the girls stepped up the best they could but went down 3-0 before they finally battled back with a great outside shot from Ray Biebuyck coming out of the midfield on the left side. We had three more scoring chances right after and pushed players up but they caught us late with their last goal.
