For the second consecutive year, IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program will again play host to a U.S. Open National Playoffs Sectional Qualifying Tournament.
Regardless if you are a professional or amateur, all that's needed to enter is an active USTA membership and an ID that states that you are at least 14 years old. The IMG Academy Bollettieri tennis program sectional will take place May 28-June 3. One male, one female and one mixed doubles pair will advance to the national tournament, with one of each receiving entrance into the 2011 US Open at Flushing Meadows.
From the Sarasota Herald-Tribune:
A year ago the tournament drew players as young as 14 and some getting ready to draw Social Security. There was a model, a former Davis Cup player â from Morocco â a singer in a rock 'n' roll band, a cardiologist and plenty of dreamers.
Last year Jan Abaza, then 15, won the Bradenton qualifying event in the women's division. Olivier Jajous, who played Davis Cup for Haiti, won the men's event.
More than 1,200 players took part in the inaugural edition of the U.S. Open National Playoffs a year ago. Entry fee is $125 for singles and $150 per team for mixed doubles.
