This past weekend, IMG Academy football program hosted it's first 7-on-7 tournament presented by Under Armour. Though 16 teams were originally set to attend the event, 12 ultimately came out to compete.
After two days of battling the heat, rain, and humidity, Maximum Exposure, the team from Detroit, Michigan, walked away with the championship trophy. Led by quarterback Shane Morris, Max Ex pulled out a win over Team Tampa in the title game. However, Team Tampa didn't go down without a fight.
Coming into the championship game, Maximum Exposure was undefeated, while Team Tampa already had one loss. In order to win, Team Tampa would have had to win two consecutive games to fulfill the double-elimination standard. Tampa won the first 20-minute game, but failed to hold off the Detroit team in the next game.
While the tournament showcased a myriad of unbelievable athletic ability, two players stood out as the most valuable players. Max Exposure's Shane Morris and Dennis Norfleet were awarded MVP of the tournament. Both Morris and Norfleet are heavily recruited players, and their performance this weekend clearly proved why.
Although they were not involved in the celebrating on the sidelines, Team Tampa's Alvin Bailey and Leon McQuay were recognizable stand-out players.
