Play resumed in the IMG Wood Bat league on Tuesday morning, with each team competing in nine inning games. Weather wasn't a problem this time and all games were played at their scheduled times. Let's take a look at the final scores as well as our game of the day and top performers.
Game of the Day: Hurricanes v. Manatees
With two of the top teams squaring off on Tuesday morning, only one team would pull out their third consecutive regular season win.
Action started off in the 2nd inning when Sam Lister singled to left followed aConnor Rose line drive triple over the right fielders head, scoring Lister. After Jacob McGowan and Graham Giangiulio both walk to the load the bases, Ben Smith hit a ground ball to second. Conrad Cornell fired it home to catcher Tyler Biggs for the force out.Biggs attempted to complete the 4-2-3double play but his throw to first was errant, allowingMcGowan to score on the play. Grey Klosinski stopped the bleeding with a diving catch to end the inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Manatees rallied back with a one out triple from Ketchum Marsh. Mike Roberts recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly, plating the Manatees' first run of the game.
With the Hurricanes in the lead, 2-1, Kolsinski started off the 7th inning with a single to left. Cornell laid down the sac bunt and Joseph Rosario committed a throwing error to first, allowing Klosinksi to score thetying run.
Rose lead off the top of the 8th with a double to left followed by aMcGowan infield single. The Manatees went to their bullpen and relieverBrooks Norton came on in relief of Kyle Becker. After Landon Sklar struck out looking, the Manatees committed another crucial throwing error, scoring Rose from second.Giangiulio doubled to left trying to butMcGowan was thrown out at the plate. The Hurricanes continued to apply pressure with Giangiulio at second, Smith doubled to left, recording his first RBI of the game and making the score 4-2, Manatees.
In the bottom half of the 8th, Joey Pinney would come in to close out the last two innings. He started off the inning with two walks, but only one would score on a wild throw to 3rd base, bringing the score to 4-3.
The Manatees effort was not enough as Pinney would go on to close the game out with two consecutive strikeouts in the bottom of the 9th.
