After a short break from IMG Wood Bat League action, play resumed on Thursday. The game of the day featured the Marauders and the Manatees, as the Paciorek brothers bashed heads once again. Mack Paciorek and his Manatees looked to avenge their loss to the Marauders from earlier in the season.
Game of the Day: Marauders v. Manatees
The Marauders sent their ace, Gabe Von Rosenberg, to the mound on Thursday while the Manatees had Todd Cunningham on the bump to start. With Cunningham on the mound in the top of the 1st, the Marauders looked to put a run on the board early. PJ Nastasi led off the game with a double to left field, creating a scoring threat after just a few pitches. After two quick outs,Tyler Helphenstine would come up big as he singled to left to score Nastasi and make the score 1-0, Marauders. After an Alec Stearn walk, Cunningham retired the inning with a pop out.
After a quick and scoreless inning by the Manatees' offense, the Marauders came up again in the top of the 2nd. With one out, Ryan McLendon reached on an infield single. Chad Tolentino grounded out to the third baseman but managed to move McLendon over to second, in scoring position. Next, the hot-hitting Eric Feliz came up and singled up the middle to score McLendon and make the score 2-0 at the end of the inning.
Von Rosenberg would strikeout six batters in the next four innings and keep the Manatees scoreless. With the score still 2-0 in the Marauders favor, the lead would expand in the top of the 6th. The first two batters of the inning were retired by relief pitcher Kyle Becker. Von Rosenberg then started off the rally with a scorching line drive single to left field. Helphenstein followed up with a single of his own to now put runners on first and third with two outs. Griffin Gallagher came in to pitch after the back-to-back singles, but the inning for the Manatees made a turn for the worst. After three walks and three wild pitches, the Marauders were able to take a 5-0 lead. Gallagher would finish the inning strong, however, getting McLendon to strike out looking.
Trying to get something going, the Manatees were fortunate enough to tack on a single run in the bottom of the 6th. The run came on a single by Ketchum Marsh, to score Grey Klosinksi who doubled earlier in the inning. That would be the last of the scoring in the game as the Marauders took this one with the final score 5-1.
