This past weekend, IMG Academy golf program alum, Sean O'Hair, fought the odds and came out on top as the champion of the RBC Canadian Open. It started out as a rough week for O'Hair as he had a close missed cut at the British Open and a difficult day of play at the Pro-Am the day before the Canadian Open. Many thought it was the worst of his PGA Tour season. But O'Hair stayed mentally tough and defeated Kris Blanks in a sudden death playoff.
O'Hair started three shots off the lead before shooting 68 to get into a playoff with Blanks (70) at 4-under 276. He clinched the playoff winby shooting a bogey on the first playoff hole. O'Hair then watched Blanks miss his bogey putt from just over five feet. After such a tough and testing week for O'Hair, he didn't mind watching Blanks miss. O'Hair completed the tournament with a total score of 276.It was the second-highest winning total on the PGA Tour this season, and the first non-major without a bogey-free round since 2008.
This is O'Hair's fourth career victory since the Wells Fargo Championship in 2009. It was an extremely emotional and overwhelming win for him since his worldranking had dropped from #43 towards the end of 2010 to #114 earlier this week. In fact, O'Hair even teared up a bit in his post-win interview."You don't know who your friends are until you're struggling," O'Hair said later in his interview. "People have been contacting me and texting me all year, telling me: 'Keep your head up, you're going to turn it around.' It's meant so much to me." O"hair is becoming the "comeback kid."
O'Hair now sits the 43rd spot in the FedEx Cup standings. With just five weeks until The Barclays, he has assured himself a spot in the Playoffs.
From everyone at IMG Academy, Congratulations Sean O'Hairon your recent achievement!
