Theremainingfourteams battled through the heat of the afternoon for a shot at the championship. Let's take a look how it all unfolded on Thursday.
Game of the Day: SeaDogs vs. Hurricanes
The SeaDogs started their strongest pitcher on their staff this season, Weston Davis, as the Hurricanes countered with the crafty Graham Giangiulio. Both of these pitchers put on a strong pitching performance, as Davis threw a complete game for the SeaDogs and Giangiulio went five innings.
Pitching dominated the first 3 innings of the game, with both teams unable to score. The Hurricanes started off hot in the top of the 4th when Sam Lister and Tommy Georgevich lead off the inning with back-to-back doubles, scoring Lister from second and putting Georgevich on second with no outs. After a Joey Pinney walk and Luke Parseghian reached on an error, the bases suddenly were loaded and Davis was in a jam. Ben Smith was hit by pitch to score Georgevich and Marshal Hayden grounded into a fielder's choice to score Pinney. At the end of the inning the Hurricanes blew it open with a 3-0 lead.
The SeaDogs got one run back in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI single by Alex Rominski, scoring Eddie Herbst from second after he reached on an error by the second basemen. With a lot of game left, the SeaDogs reduced the deficit, 3-1.
The âCanes tacked on another run in the 6th, after the SeaDogs surrendered another error, scoring Landon Sklar from third and making it a 3-run ball game. The SeaDogs exploded in their half of sixth scoring 3 runs after a clutch single by Herbst to score Jesse Calo and Kyushik Nam. The very next pitch Herbst stole second and was in scoring position. Corey Gibson grounded out to second, which moved Herbst to third. Herbst scored from third after the Hurricanes surrendered another error when Rominski hit a routine grounder.
The SeaDogs took the lead in the 8th inning after a single by Gibson and an error put him on third to lead off the inning. Christian Bloesl got the game winning RBI on an infield single, scoring Gibson from third. Davis came into the top of the ninth to shut down the top of the Hurricanes line up, getting three consecutive outs. Final score 5-4, SeaDogs.
