Today IMG Academy announced Scott Dean is the new Director of the IMG Academy soccer program's Boys Program. Dean first joined IMG Academy in August 2010 as the U16 Academy League Head Coach.
âI am looking forward to my new role as Director of the Boys Program within the IMG Academy soccer program,â remarked Dean. âOver the past year, I have been incredibly impressed by the level of talent on our fields, and equally impressed by the dedication of the coaches and trainers on this campus to prepare these young athletes for college and beyond.â
Prior to joining IMG Academy last summer, Dean was the Head Coach of Stony Brook University and the Assistant Coach at the University of Rhode Island. With Stony Brook, he led his team to an NCAA Division I top-25 ranking for the first time in University history. During his tenure, Dean was also named University Coach of the Year, Conference Coach of the Year, and NCAA Division I Regional Coach of the Year, and was a finalist for NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year. Twelve members of his team moved on to have a pro career in the U.S. or abroad, and two players went on to represent their national teams. At the University of Rhode Island, Dean helped his team achieve a NCAA Division I top-five ranking, and six of his players advanced into the professional ranks.
Previously, on the youth level, Dean led his U17 team to a national championship in 2000. He led the U19 girls team to national runner-up status in 2000, while his U19 boys team finished third in the national championships in 2002. Dean has also coached youth teams to five state championships and two regional championships.
Titles and accolades aside, Dean has helped personally place more than 200 players into collegiate programs, and has helped secure more than two million dollars in athletic scholarships over the past several years.
âAfter an extensive national search for a new director of the soccer program, Scott Dean rose to the top as the clear choice,â remarked Greg Phillips, Vice President and Athletics Director of IMG Academy. âHis coaching experience at all levels of the game coupled with his commitment to higher education and preparing athletes for what they will experience at the next level is a rare find. We look forward to welcoming him to the team.â
In his new role, Dean succeeds Tom Durkin, who relocated to Boston with his family this past summer. During the past year, Dean studied closely under Durkin, who had been instrumental in the development and expansion of the soccer program over the last decade.
Dean received his B.S. in Business Management from Green Mountain College. He and his wife Kim, IMG's Head Coach of the U17 girls team, reside in Bradenton, Fla.
The IMG Academy soccer program is also in the final process of identifying a director for its rapidly-expanding girls program. These new appointments are indicative of IMG's continued investment into the growth of both its boys and girls programs.
