Week 8 was a very good week for IMG trained quarterbacks .The highlight of the weekend was the Weinke Bowl which lived up to the hype for both Christian Ponder and Cam Newton.
Christian Ponder came away the victor in the Weinke Bowl this year. Both quarterbacks played very well and it would have gone to overtime if it wasn't for a missed last second field goal by the Panthers. Ponder threw for 236 on 18/28 passing with 1 touchdown. To Read Cam Newton's stat line, you would think they would have one any game, throwing for 290 yards on 22/35 with 3 touchdowns.
Eli Manning and the Giants added to the Dolphin's woes winning with a score of 20-17. Manning threw for 349 yards and 2 touchdowns. Mathias Kiwanuka was a force on defense recording 7 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Drew Brees started slow but started to pick up as the game against the Rams went on. Brees' 1 touchdown on 269 yards was not enough to dig out the hole from his 2 interceptions and the Saints lost to the previously winless Rams.
Like Drew Brees, Tony Romo was not able overcome his opponent and the Cowboys lost on Sunday night to the Eagles. Romo threw for 203 yards and 1 touchdown with an interception. The Eagles were helped by their 3 IMG trained players in Dominique Rodgers Cromartie who had 3 tackles, Nate Allen who added 3 tackles of his own and Clay Harbor's 1 catch for 11 yards.
Alex Smith again led the 49ers to a very quiet victory, taking them to 6-1 on the season. Smith threw for 177 yards and 1 touchdown. The Browns defense was stifling but the offense could not keep the pace. Ahtyba Rubin and D'Qwell Jackson combined for 18 tackles, 8 and 10 respectively. On offense for the Browns, Ben Watson caught 3 passes for 64 yards.
