The now-16-year-old Totka arrived at IMG Academy several years ago with the same dream that Seles, Williams, and Sharapova arrived with years prior - to be number one in the world. A fierce competitor, the young Hungarian has played her way into some of the junior tennis world's most prestigious international events, helping her rise in the ITF Rankings to her current #275.
IMG's unique group training system - the same that helped bolster the young careers of Courier, Wheaton, Agassi and Blackman when they trained at IMG together years before - is one in which Totka has thrived. Training and living among some of the tennis world's best junior players day-in and day-out has provided the ideal competitive environment for her.
"Naomi has benefited tremendously from the support structure here at IMG," remarked Coach David "'Red" Ayme, who has been with the Academy for 25 years. "Within my team of coaches, she has access to everyone from ATP/WTA coaches to a former WTA player to a video analysis specialist and more. She is constantly fine-tuning and maximizing her game as a result."
The support structure around Totka mirrors that in which young British pro Heather Watson thrived at IMG in her early years of training. Says Juan Herrera, who serves as Totka's head coach, "Like Heather, Naomi takes advantage of every resource here on campus. She, along with our other top ITF girls like Danielle Collins, Stephanie Nauta and Vicky Duval, represent the next generation of greats."
With 19 ITF matches won this year, including the 2011 Honduras Bowl title, Totka looks to 2012 with confidence and an expectation of even greater things to come.
