Long before swarms of D-I schools caught onto Evan Schwan, the IMG Academy football program Football Academy saw his potential.
A 2011 IMG All-Madden Team selection, Schwan went on to have a monster season for Central Dauphin (Harrisburg, PA) High, which has resulted in countless schools recruiting the defensive lineman. Click here to view his senior highlights. From Rivals.com:
Harrisburg (Pa.) Central Dauphin defensive end Evan Schwan is a late bloomer. It's no surprise colleges are picking up interest quick for the 6-foot-6, 235-pound end as he had a huge senior year.
"I had 78 tackles and 17 sacks and earned all-state as we won the state championship," he said. "I did everything I could to help our team win state."
Schwan fell under the radar because of an injury that cost him his junior year.
What sticks out about the lineman?
"I feel like what separates me from other players is my pursuit to the ball," he said. "Some kids are on a team to play, I play to win."
Recruiting is rising for Schwan with a handful of offers and almost certainly more to come.
"It's taken awhile, but I have offers from Connecticut, Rutgers, Temple, Kent State and some smaller I-AA schools," he said. "The head coach from Iowa talked to me on Sunday and they are sending out a defensive line coach on Tuesday. If everything checks out, they'll offer.
"Ohio State is also interested in me from what some other guys are telling me."
Does Schwan like anybody?
"Honestly, Penn State and Ohio State are kind of dream schools just cause you know I grew up watching them," he said. "Penn State is really close and I've been a fan of Penn State for awhile."
