Over the past two weeks, the IMG Academy basketball program girls national team traveled to Gainesville for the SIAA state tournament and the NACA national tournament. Here are some highlights from the events:
SIAA (Sunshine Independent Athletic Association) State Tournament
Composed of Florida's Independent and Christian Schools
Held at The Rock School in Gainesville, FL
IMG fell to Faith Baptist 72-70 to finish in 3rd Place at the tournament. University of Central Florida commit Briahanna Jackson scored 22 points, with 10 coming in the fourth quarter.Hayley Alexander matched her with 22 pts (6-for-8 from three-point line). The team wen on to beatThe Rock school in the consolation game71-24. Jackson scored 18, andfreshman Kavita Akula showed up big-time with 14 points off the bench.
NACA (National Association of Christian Athletes)
Composed of the nation's top Independent and Christian Schools
Held at Fort Bluff Camp in Dayton, TN
February 28th-March 2nd
IMG Finished 6th Place in a tournament that featured some of the nation's best, includingRiverdale Baptist of Maryland, Oak Hill Academy, The Potter's House Christian Academy of Jacksonville and Thomasville Prep of North Carolina.
Game 1 vs. Thomasville Prep (61-54 loss)
Jackson scored 25 points, with freshman Akula adding18 points.
Game 2 vs. Word of Life Traditional School (52-42 win)
Jackson again led the team with 17 points, with Akula adding 10.
Game 3 vs. SCAIL (77-73 loss)
IMG's perimeter duo of Jackson and Hayley Alexander combined for 55 points (29 for Alexander, 26 for Jackson), but it wasn't enough in the loss.
