When Tyler Pastornicky graduated from IMG Academy in 2008, a Moyer replaced him as starting shortstop.
On Saturday, Pastornicky, now the starting shortstop for the Atlanta Braves, faced off against Jamie Moyer -- the father of Dillon Moyer, who succeeded Pastornicky at IMG Academy.
The 22-year-old Pastornicky light-heartedly joked about the match-up with the 49-year-old Moyer to Braves reporters before the game. From MLB.com:
The 22-year-old Pastornicky will be reintroduced on Saturday night, when the 49-year-old Moyer takes the mound for the Rockies.
When asked if he called the veteran pitcher "Mr. Moyer," Pastornicky smiled and said, "No, I think I called him Jamie."
Moyer received a no-decision and Pastornicky collected one hit in the game, which Pastornicky's Braves won 13-9.
