Roger Federer (SUI) vs. Novak Djokovic (SRB)
This is the match-up we have all been waiting for since the tournament draws came out. A rematch from last year, when Federer ended Djokovic's streak. For a while on Tuesday it looked like it may be Del Potro vs. Tsonga, but both men showed their fighting spirit and came back to win their matches in five sets. That's two five-setters in a row for Djokovic, we will have to see if that has any effect on his legs.
There will be no surprises between these two men. They know each other well and they understand what each is going to do to try and win. Both men have two of the most complete games we have ever seen in the history of tennis and neither really has a glaring weakness. I expect Djokovic to try and break down Federer's backhand and you know Federer is going to try and win some easy points with his serve. This should be fun.
Nick's Pick - I am rooting for a great match, but I have to give a slight edge to Djokovic. Federer has to win the big points and has to serve well. Overall, I just think Djokovic will prevail in the end.
Rafael Nadal (ESP) vs. David Ferrer (ESP)
Nadal is 15-4 against Ferrer and has already beaten him twice already this year on clay (finals of Barcelona and semis of Rome). Needless to say, these two guys are very familiar with each other and there will be no surprises. Ferrer is going to have to try something different against Nadal. He has already lost to him twice this year on clay and just coming out with the same tactics are not going to net him a victory. He needs to go for broke and try to keep Nadal off-balance. I am not sure that is going to happen.
Nick's Pick - Have to go with Nadal in this match. Ferrer may win a set, but going with Nadal.
Sara Errani (ITA) vs. Sam Stosur (AUS)
This is the first Grand Slam semifinal for the 25-year old Italian. Her previous best Grand Slam result was the quarters of this year's Aussie Open. She is also a great doubles player (ranked #8 in the world) and reached the doubles finals of the 2012 Aussie Open. Being that this is a new experience for her, you have to think that Stosur will have an advantage their. I also like Stosur's ability to hit powerful heavy balls from both wings and her kick serve is the best on the tour. She's been to this stage before and with her ability to wear down her opponents I like her chances.
Nick's Pick - Going with Stosur to get back to the finals for the second time in three years.
Petra Kvitova (CZE) vs. Maria Sharapova (RUS)
These two have met five times previously with Sharapova winning three of those, including twice in the semis of different tournaments this year (Australian Open and Stuttgart). Both girls are going to play very aggressively and both want to be able to control the game with their groundstrokes. If Sharapova is serving well, the odds are in her favor, if Kvitova can keep her unforced errors down then she would get a slight edge. This could really go either way.
Nick's Pick - I just like the way Sharapova is playing right now. Kvitova struggled in her last match (had to rally from 4-2 in the third set) and Sharapova has pretty much had her way this clay-court season. I am going with her in 3 sets.
