As the reigning 400-meter Olympic champion, LaShawn Merritt looks like a strong candidate to earn another gold at London 2012.
Merritt, who trains with IMG Academy's world-renowned speed coach Loren Seagrave, posted the world's fastest time for this year with a 44.12 to finish first at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Oregon. Said Seagrave:
"LaShawn arrived at the Olympic Trials well prepared. The 'total athlete' approach used during his preparation gave him the confidence to go through the rounds and control the races. He executed the race model and showed he has superior speed and fitness. He will continue to prepare and move into London ready to run whatever it takes to annex his second gold in back-to-back Olympic games."
