Head basketball coach Loren Jackson isn't the only Jackson roaming the basketball courts at IMG Academy this summer. His son, Cristian Jackson, will be starting his freshman year at IMG Academy as a full-time student and member of the boy's basketball team for the upcoming season.
Ranked #25 in the class of 2016, the Chicago native is thrilled about his upcoming year at IMG. "It's a lot better than Chicago," said C. Jackson. "I train everyday, lift weights and get to play more."
His dad, coach Loren Jackson, joined the IMG Academy basketball program in 2010 after 22 years of coaching youth basketball in the Chicago area where he was named 2-time District 3 "Coach of the Year".
Coach Jackson couldn't be more excited about his son joining the team at IMG. "The biggest part of it is, since he was two, he's been in the gym with me working on fundamentals," said Coach Jackson. "IMG gives him the opportunity to play with a diverse group of kids and develop as a player."
As an eighth grader, C. Jackson received offers to play college ball from Iona College (Division I) and Manhattan College, which Coach Jackson describes as only the beginning. "I expect those things to develop and grow over time," said Coach Jackson. "I know he will be successful under the direction here."
Aside from the basketball camp at IMG Academy, C. Jackson also attended the Hoop Scoop and John Lucas basketball training camps this summer. At the Hoop Scoop All-American camp, Jackson was named a top-20 player, which placed him on the All-Star team and was also named the #1 point guard at the John Lucas camp.
