IMG Academy's Mika Miyazato won the Safeway Classic for her first win on the LGPA Tour,finishing with a 2-under 70 and beating heropponentsbytwo strokes.
Joining her on the green was top-ranked Yani Tseng (73), Inbee Park (70), Brittany Lincicome (67),Paula Creamer (76), Haeji Kang (66), Cristie Kerr (70), So Yeon Ryu (71), Sydnee Michaels (70) and Michelle Wei (69).
Miyazato began training at IMG Academy in May 2008 as a post-grad. She regularly returns to IMG Academy to train with coach Larry Marshall and the Athletic and Personal Development staff.
"It was my dream to win and play on the LPGA Tour," Mika Miyazato said.
Ai Miyazato, a nine-time LPGA Tour winner, ran on the 18th green to congratulate Mika Miyazato after the breakthrough victory. She is the 11th Japanese player to win on the LPGA Tour and the third to win the event, following Ayaka Okamoto in 1986 and Ai Miyazato in 2010.
"It is very fulfilling for me to win along with those other famous players," Mika Miyazato said.
